“Start With Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action”

“loyalty comes from the ability to inspire people.”

– Simon Sinek

Inspiring

Famous innovator of The Golden Circle, Simon Sinek empowers readers with the tools to inspire your workforce starting with “why” we do what we do.

The Typical Business Motto

Sinek’s ingenuous outlook on the way most businesses work sets them up for utter disappointment. Typically, according to Sinek, companies pitch products to the world by starting with what the product is, and how it works. Why, however, becomes a bit fuzzy. Nevertheless, this sets up an environment of confused, yet fierce, competition.

Start With Why

Starting with why, companies portray a belief that is unique to that company and hard to duplicate, then tell you how they plan to help you, and finish with what they do. It is the common belief of why that brings loyal customers and employees together to buy Apple products, fly with Southwest Airlines, and shop at Costco. It is “why” that brands loyalty and security.

Creating a Following

You can sell anything you want by pitching that your products and services are better than the competition. “But when you tell people WHY you’re doing what you’re doing, remarkable things happen” (Sinek, 2009, p. 152).

Michael Shull inspires people to turn strategy into measurable results by connecting vision to the work that truly matters. He believes that the best ideas come from those closest to the work and focuses on creating conditions where teams are not afraid to try new things, learn quickly, and grow. He also encourages people to challenge the status quo and rethink policies and procedures that were designed for conditions that no longer exist. His perspective on improvement was shaped early in his career in restaurants, broadened in construction, and evolved across government and nonprofit sectors, including healthcare, transportation, and tourism. Today, he leads the Continuous Improvement Program at Denver International Airport and founded The Organizational Improvement Habit in 2009 to share ideas that spark learning, inspire reflection, and drive action.
